My Story

25 years into a successful career, I pulled onto the shoulder of Highway 26 in Portland on the drive home from work, white-knuckling the steering wheel, gasping for air between sobs. I'd held it together until exactly one block from the office. Then decades of proving myself came out all at once.

At first, I felt like a victim, then I got angry. And when I started making compromises, my wife cared enough to say exactly what I needed to hear: “If you don’t take ownership of the choices that led you here, why should I believe you have any power to change things?”

Then a bold comment from a coach (“I would never recommend you leave your job before you learn to love it.”) made me want to throw my phone but turned out to be the catalyst for a life-changing insight.

Walking up a steep hill the next morning, I said aloud a prayer I’d said a dozen times before, whenever I noticed how much easier climbing the hill had become: “Thank you, Father, for giving me this hill.”

Only this time, the words hit different. Like a warm blanket. Like pure light.

“If I can learn to love this hill, then I can also choose to love my job and career.”

And I did. Right then on the hill. And, through tears, I said it again: “Thank you for giving me this hill.”

When I think about that experience now, I don’t just feel peace. I love it. Not because I enjoyed it, but for what it gave me — the opportunity to choose truth over the lies that made me feel trapped for so long.

Maybe you’ve felt like I did. Trapped in a cycle of proving yourself and never getting ahead. Avoiding any sign of discomfort, because you’re already exhausted from the strain and giving the “leftovers” to the ones who actually mean the most to you. Ashamed for feeling like you want more than what you’ve already received.

That’s normal and reasonable, given what you’ve experienced. It’s also not necessary.

More goodness and better outcomes than you can imagine is knocking at your door. You’re just one choice away from receiving it all.

The problem? That choice is hidden behind layers of lies and deception.

Together, we’ll clear the cobwebs and discover truths that will empower you to become the person you want to be. More accurately, more of who you really are. We’ll chart the course and set you on the path.

So you can live and lead with more peace, presence and power, at work and at home. Not someday — right now.
